John Dyer Baizley: The Artist, The Musician
Is creativity rooted in individuality? For John Dyer Baizley, the story began on a Virginia rural farm where music and artwork were just commonplace. In his latest interview for Revolver Mag Baizley says: “…art… was where I felt the most free. This’s where I’d been driven and it’s the most comfortable job.” He didn’t consider it work.
John Dyer Baizley is an artist from the East Coast of the United States, who currently lives in Philadelphia. His work has been featured in many magazines, including Alternative Press and Revolver. The style and subject matter of John Baizley’s work revolves around a fascination with mythology and fantasy, as well as a sense of nostalgia for natural landscapes. His portfolio can be found on his website A Perfect Monster, which also offers merchandise featuring his artwork.
John Baizley is well known for his original art, many of which have been turn into small, limited run prints. The majority of his print catalog was printed by Burlesque of North America, but he currently has Nightswim produce his prints.
John Baizley Albums and Baroness
Baroness
In 2003 Baizley created The Baroness Band with longtime friends and members formerly of punk -metal bands Johnny Welfare and Paycheck. Allen Blickle, Spring Welch and Tim Loose. First EPs are released on October 3 2004 and followed shortly by “Sequels” on November 5 2005. It was the album’s first LP and features the band ‘Un Person’ and the band ‘Spirals. Baizley created everything that covers these releases.
Red Album
This release on September 4, 2007 is a colour album that was a huge success. It was ranked 83rd among the 100 Greatest Metal albums in history by Rolling Stone Magazine. The review states “The ideas Barone has offered for the past three years- an air tight and huge rhythm section that supports sludge-of-the-South vocals and guitar.”. Guitarist John Baizley writes the lyrics and designed the cover artwork, while the band plays the guitar and also leads the group as its singer.
Blue record
In October 2009, a sequel to Red was launched. The Baroness would not have released another release that could be as good in its own right. The Blue Record did not disappoint but as Baizley says “Every music has different variations on the same notes. It’s just like an algebra problem, not needing to work logically to get the satisfaction. There are some real boundaries in the music.
Yellow & Green
August 17 2012 saw an album released ‘Yellow & Blue’. The band again produced an attractive and commercial album that surprised longtime fans while retaining true sound while straying from the traditional direction.
John Baizley Art
Some of the most well known art John Dyer Baizley has produced, has been for metal albums. He typically uses line drawings mixed with watercolors to create his paintings. His work is similar to Alphonse Mucha, which is one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.
He has created artwork for bands such as Kvelertak, Kylesa, Pig Destroyer, Darkest Hour, Daughters, Skeletonwitch, Torche, Cursed, Black Tusk, Vitamin X, Flight of the Conchords, The Red Chord, Gillian Welch, Metallica, and his own band, Baroness.
Although I used to be a big fan of John Dyer Baizley’s music in Baroness, I have now become an even bigger fan, and a collector, of his artwork. That is what this page is truly dedicated to. It is a reference for myself and others, for other people to see and experience his artwork. This content will be created as pictures and videos taken by me to the best of my ability. John Dyer Baizley is one of my favorite artists of all time.

The female figure in all of his work is so simple yet complex. There are so many things going on in each work, the symbolism runs deep. Every time I look closely at one of my prints, I discover something new and exciting.
I unfortunately do not have to room or funds to display all of the artwork I currently posses by John Baizley. One day I hope to have it all framed at least.
Al and I have decided we will do a few art videos starting with our Baizleys. We would love to talk about these pieces and bring more information and recognition to them.
I like to check out Espressobeans.com to see what other colletors have in their collection.

A brand new multi-color screenprinted art print based on John Baizley’s album artwork for sludge metal band Black Tusk’s 2010 album “Taste The Sin.”
The artwork began as a 10 x 13.5″ watercolor painting, then a high resolution scan was broken down by Wes Winship into 16 separate screenprinted color layers. The result is a stunning, high quality collectible art print, committed to paper by Ben LaFond. This is Ben’s first print project since returning to the Burlesque studio after being out on the injured list and he hasn’t missed a beat.
