We built a website that ranked on the first page of Google in one month
Al came to me with the idea. He’s always full of them. This time, it was something we could definitely pull off – and fast.
He was visiting the Weis in Macungie one evening and happened to hear a string band covering one of his favorite songs. He thought it was odd that there was a band playing in a grocery store, until it hit him. It’s a grocery store / pub; of course, there’s music in a pub. He continued his shopping and went home for the evening.
Later that night, he went to find out the name of the band that was playing (he’s a sucker for covers). When he searched online for Weis Pub’s calendar, to his surprise he couldn’t find a calendar – or a website! There was only a Facebook page that hadn’t listed any live bands for a few weeks.
Al came into work the next day and told me what had happened. During his search, he noticed weispub.com and theweispub.com were both available for purchase, so naturally, they made their way into his cart. He asked how hard it would be to create a website for Weis Pub, on that would include a calendar of events. I did some quick keyword research and responded that it would be quite easy; we should even be able to rank on Google within a few months.
Then the gears really started turning. What started as a quick project to create a simple calendar really grew legs.
- What if we put an email list together?
- What if we advertised made up specials?
- What if we created a local business spotlight for made up businesses?
- What if we got it to the first place on Google?
- What if we got it to be the “official” website on
